Vandana Shiva, a scientist and environmentalist known for her activism against GMOs, globalization, and patents on seeds and traditional foods, co-founded Navdanya.
Navdanya is a research initiative, which promotes seed saving and organic farming and staffs more than 70,000 farmer-members. Navdanya means nine crops that epitomizes the collective source of food security in India. Shiva talks about what a seed is at its essence and the relationship of freedom to biodiversity.
